Kerala youth festival: Venues named after the literary works of the famous writers

ALAPPUZHA: Arrangements are progressing fast for the three -day long 59th Kerala School Youth Festival to be held in

Alappuzha

from December 7. There will be 29 venues for the events of the youth festival. The venues named after the literary works of the famous writers, who were born and brought up or spent their majority life time in Alappuzha. The venue’s names were chosen based on the nature of the events to be staged on the venues concerned.

The venues (number 1 to 5)), which are fixed for dance competitions, are named as ‘Utharaswayamvaram’, ‘Mayoorasandesham’, ‘Kalyana Sougandhikam’, `Nithya Kanyaka’, and ‘Chilamboli’.

The ‘Oppana’ competition will be staged on the venue number six and it has been named as Vayalar Ramavarma’s `Ayisha’. The venue fixed for

classical music

and light music has been named ‘Sargasangeetham’. The name of the venue fixed for folk arts has bene named as ‘Avanavan Kadamba’ of

Kavalam Narayana Panicker

. The drama venue has been named as ‘Aswamedham’ -the dram written by famous playwright Thoppil Bhasi.

The name of the green pavilion is Hortus Malabaricus written by Hendrik van Rheede with the key contributions of Itty Achuthan.

At the same time, on Thursday Alappuzha district administration has decided to start an initiative titled `friendly auto’ (Souhrida Auto). This initiative will help the students, their guardians and teachers to reach one venue from another venue in autorickshaws at low rates. The district administration is implementing this with the help of the autorickshaw drivers’ unions in the town.

District collector S Suhas has said autorickshaws bearing the sticker of ‘Souhrida Auto’ will be ready in front of every venue to carry contestants, their guardians and teachers to other venues at cheap rates three days.

Apart from it, the organisers have also arranged 25 school buses for brining students and their teachers coming from various districts to the venues and their staying places from Alappuzha KSRTC bus station and railway station. Though the organisers have arranged 29 venues, food supply centres will function only at three venues. So the buses will bring students to the food supply centres from various venues.
