KOCHI: A
woman
was
killed
while her brother sustained grievous injuries when their car collided, head-on, with a truck at Maradu around 6.45am on Saturday and the
auto driver
–who rushed the injured duo to the
hospital
was also killed in another
accident later in the day. Both accidents were reported from Maradu in
Ernakulam
on Saturday morning.
The woman was identified as Jomol Varghese (43) of Moolamkulam House, Nellikkunnathu in Thrissur. The exact cause of crash is yet to be confirmed. Police seized the truck involved in the case and later registered a case under
IPC
Section 304-A (Causing
death by negligence). Jomol’s brother, Sanjo, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police added that the siblings were on their way to a relative’s home in Chottanikkara from their home in Thrissur, when the accident happened. The truck coming from Pettah direction hit the car informed the police.
The car was wrecked after the collision. In a rare coincidence, the auto-rickshaw driver – who was involved in the rescue operation of the injured duo–was killed after his vehicle lost control and rammed the concrete post on a boundary wall.
The deceased was identified as Thampi (56) son of Vasu, Nandanam, Thekkumbagam, Tripunithura. Police said that the driver was on his way back from the hospital when he experienced some physical discomfort. His vehicle went out of control and rammed the portion of a boundary wall where the gate was attached.
The man sustained injuries in the accident and hence the exact cause of his death can be known only after an autopsy. But, it seems like the injuries he sustained in the accident might have led to his death, said an officer. Though he was rushed to a hospital, his life could not be saved.
