KOCHI: The elections for the Kochi corporation has thrown up a fractured verdict with LDF emerging as the single largest front in the urban local body with 74 divisions.
Results have been announced only for 72 divisions so far but LDF has won 33 seats five short of absolute majority.
The Congress-led UDF has won 30 seats. Two rebel candidates - one belonging to the IUML, a front partner of UDF and that of Congress have won one seat each. Vote counting in Kunnumpuram division could not be completed because of machine failure. One ward where there is a hung verdict, results would be decided on the basis of lots.
UDF had won the ULB for the second term in 2015 by bagging 38 divisions, while the CPM-led LDF had to be content with 23 seats. The BJP, which won two seats in 2015 has won 5 seats this time.
