State govt allocates Rs 1 crore grant to SMS

Kochi: State govt has granted Rs 1 crore grant to School of Management Studies (SMS) of Cusat, as part of its diamond jubilee celebrations. Cusat vice-chancellor M Junaid Bushiri revealed the govt decision during a press conference held in Kochi.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially inaugurate the department's diamond jubilee celebrations on Saturday.
According to Bushiri, SMS was established in 1964 as a part of Kerala University's Kochi campus, with M V Pylee serving as its founding director. "SMS was the first of its kind initiative to nurture industry academia interaction in any university in Kerala, with K T Chandy, then director of IIM Calcutta as the chairman," said the vice-chancellor.
Zakkariya K A, the current director of SMS, stated that in 1965 the school introduced a three-year part-time diploma in industrial management and a three-year part-time diploma in business administration, which marked a significant milestone in professional education in Kerala. "The introduction of the master of bank management programme in 1978 was a response to the needs of industry and society. Since the 1980s, SMS has ventured into more industry collaborations," added Zakkariya.
To commemorate its 60 years of academic excellence, SMS has planned a series of grand celebrations, including international conferences, global alumni meet-ups, mega conclaves, innovative academic programmes, and a commemorative publication highlighting the school's contributions to the field of management.
