Kochi Bangalore Industrial Corridor

(KBIC) plans to develop a node for

non-manufacturing sector at Ayyampuzha

and develop the area in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner.

The proposed Global City (GIFT) is envisaged as smart, eco-friendly, sustainable, green and clean. Higher standards of quality will be maintained while designing and developing all the key aspects of the project such as road, water and wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, power, urban planning and other aspects.

Additional chief secretary (industries) special projects Alkesh Kumar Sharma said the project when completed will meet international benchmarking in terms of infrastructure and services will be achieved once completed.

"The vision of the project is to develop the place as a centre of economic growth and employment opportunities without any polluting industry or activity. The project is going in the right direction. The

(Jacobs Group), the master planning agency has submitted the inception report for the GIFT city. We are at the planning stage only and it is too early to judge the project. This project will change the face of Kochi and make it at par with some of the developed cities of the world," he said.

The businesses that are planned at the GIFT City include Indian and International knowledge-based companies, capital market, asset management, insurance sector, legal, accounting, audit management organizations, IT / ITES services, research development, hospitality, convention and entertainment businesses.

Sharma also said that the project will follow the standards of a central business district model catering to the criteria prescribed by the Indian Green Building Council for Gold/Platinum certification.

Global City (GIFT) is expected to become an integrated centre for innovation and growth, becoming a desired place to live, work and play for companies. This will be a place for financial prosperity, a centre for innovation and creativity, a place to make things better and a place with a sustainable environment for business growth.

It will be a competitive global knowledge and financial centre that will attract local and international organizations with expertise in these and other relevant sectors. There will be commercial organisations, financial centre, multi-tenanted offices, incubation and innovation centres.
