Brisk polling, which was "absolutely peaceful", was witnessed in the fiercely fought Kerala Assembly election on Tuesday with a 74.02 per cent voter turnout, even as minor skirmishes and allegations of bogus voting were reported from a few places. The election to 140 assembly seats was "absolutely peaceful, free and fair", Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena told PTI.
At least 73.58 per cent of the total 2.74 crore voters exercised their franchise for the state assembly elections according to a preliminary assessment when polling drew to a close at 7pm in Kerala on Tuesday,the Election Commission of India said.
Kerala continued to witness a massive turnout of voters on Tuesday with 71.31 per cent electors casting their franchise till 6pm as minor incidents of violence were reported from few places. According to the Election Commission figures, 71.31 per cent polling was recorded till 6pm While 71.26 per cent of male voters had cast their franchise, 71.35 per cent were womenand transgenders 36.33 per cent.

A voter turnout of 58.66 per cent was recorded till 3.46 pm on Tuesday in Kerala in the state assembly polls, according to the Election Commission (EC). The Palakkad district witnessed the highest voting percentage with a voter turnout of 62.99 till the said time, while the Malappuram district witnessed the lowest voter turnout of 55.47 per cent. Wayanad recorded a voter turnout of 57.57 per cent, Thrissur 60.36 per cent and Palakkad constituency recorded 62.99 per cent till 3.46 pm.
