PATHANAMTHITTA: Fifty-seven of the total 59 people accused in the high-profile case of alleged sexual abuse of a dalit girl in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district have been arrested so far, police confirmed on Sunday.

Following the registration of the initial case at Ilavumthitta police station on January 10, all suspects listed in the case have been apprehended through a thorough investigation, except for two individuals currently overseas, according to district police chief V G Vinod Kumar.

The most recent arrest involved a 25-year-old youth, who was apprehended near his residence on Sunday morning, the officer confirmed.

The investigation is being conducted by a dedicated team under the leadership of IPS officer S Ajitha Beegam, with direct oversight from the district police chief.
