KOTTAYAM: CPM does not have a uniform stand on filing a defamation case against Swapna Suresh, accused in the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case, for the serious allegations she raised against its leaders.
CPM state secretary M V Govindan, who had arrived here leading the Janakeeya Prathirodha Jadha, on Saturday reiterated that he will move legally against Suresh against the allegations she raised against him.
When asked why chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan was not filing a defamation case despite several allegations raised against him by Suresh, Govindan said that the CM has better things to do than sue someone. CM's self-respect won't be lost through such allegations, he said.
Govindan also made it clear that the party has given permission to party leaders Kadakampally Surendran and TM Thomas Isaac to file a defamation case against Suresh, who had raised allegations against the two leaders.
"CPM or its leaders have nothing to fear over Swapna's allegations. Her latest allegations have also flopped," he said.
Govindan refused to react to references by E P Jayarajan in connection with the controversies over Kannur resort in an interview. A reaction to this should be sought from Jayarajan, he said. When asked whether CPM had discussed the issue, an agitated Govindan said that he does not want to speak about it to the media.
"All controversies are made by the media. Don't try to implement the agenda of the media on CPM. We will take care of the party matters," he said.
"The party stands for a broad political unity against communalism at the national-level. That doesn't mean making poll alliances with the Congress and the Muslim League. Such alliances will be made according to the political situation prevailing in each state," he added.
