Kerala assemby elections: RJD plans to demand three more seats

Kozhikode: The Kerala unit of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is planning to demand three additional seats in the upcoming assembly elections. The party officially intensified its demand for a larger share of seats within LDF.
At a news conference after the party's leadership meeting in Kozhikode, RJD state secretary general Varughese George said that the party was keen on additional seats in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode. In the 2021 elections, RJD won in the Koothuparamba constituency and lost in Kalpetta and Wayanad. George said that LDF should allot more seats in recognition of the party's growing social base. He noted that during previous polls, RJD accepted fewer seats to accommodate Kerala Congress (M) on the condition that the demand would be reconsidered later. However, in the recent bilateral talks, CPM informed RJD that the status quo would be maintained. George claimed that the party plays a crucial role in the victory of LDF candidates in various constituencies across the state. Hence, RJD wants to reopen dialogue on increasing its seat share.
