MALAPPURAM: With three more Covid-19 cases confirmed in
Malappuram
on Thursday, the total number of cases of the viral infection in the district has increased to eight.
The infection was confirmed on Thursday in a 49-year-old man from Kanmanam near Kalpakanchery, 39-year-old man from Pullar near Tirur and 36-year-old man from Ayanikkod near Vandur.
The Kanmanam native had returned from Dubai to Karippur airport on March 22 in Etihad Airways flight. He underwent preliminary tests in the government medical college and returned home in an autorikshaw. He was shifted to government medical college in Manjeri on March 25.
The Vandur native had returned from Sharjah to Thiruvananthapuram airport on March 22 in an Air India flight. He is now under treatment at an isolation ward in government medical college in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Pullur native returned from Dubai on March 22 to Bengaluru in an Emirates Airlines flight. From there, he reached in
Kerala border by a tempo traveler and then he approached Thalassery government hospital. After the preliminary examination, he was shifted to his home. Now he is under treatment at government medical college in Manjeri.
The district collector has appealed all the people who came into contact with these persons to report at district-level Covid-19 control cell.
The total number of persons who are under observation in homes and isolation wards in hospitals and Covid Care Centres has crossed 11,000.
The district collector has appealed people to share the details of people who recently returned from UAE and other gulf countries, as majority of the infected persons are from gulf countries.
Meanwhile, aiming to address the issue of shortage of food items, the Kudumbasree Mission has opened 104 community kitchen across the district.
Apart from providing food materials to different offices in district headquarters, the community kitchen will provide food to people who are under observation in isolation wards and Covid Care Centres across the district.
A packet of meals would be prices at Rs 20. The food packets would be directly delivered by Kudumbasree workers.
Trauma care volunteers are also associating with the Kudumbasree workers in food distribution.
Following the complaint regarding overpricing of essential commodities, the civil supplies authorities have conducted inspections in various locations in Malappuram district.
Inspection was conducted in 285 shops across the district. District civil supplies officials have informed that a round the clock control room was started in Malappuram to receive complaints regarding this.
Aiming to adress complaints regarding the unavailability of drinking water, The water authority has appointed nodal officers in the district.
Meanwhile the social justice department authorities have distributed food kits to members of the transgender community.
