Kochi: Jessel Carneiro, who was ruled out from Blasters squad during the middle of last season due to a shoulder injury, will lead Kerala Blasters in the ninth season of Indian Super League that begins here on Friday.
There were no major surprises in the 28-man squad announced by head coach Ivan Vukomanovic on Wednesday. Most of the players in the squad have been handed a long-term deal by Blasters that extends until the end of 2025 season. Sixteen players have been retained from last season, where Blasters finished as the runners-up. “We are entering the ISL race with the dream of winning a title. Blasters has given serious care regarding keeping our core players intact through contract extensions to provide stability and to build on the club’s sporting plans. Blasters have a nice blend of youth and experienced players, the entire team is on a journey to achieve what was lost last season,” said, Karolis Skinkys, sporting director of Kerala Blasters. The team also boasts of seven Kerala players that includes Sahal Abdul Samad and KP Rahul. Sreekuttan, Sachin Suresh, Nihal Sudeesh, Bijoy Varghese and Vibin Mohanan. Blasters will take on SC East Bengal in the ISl opener at the Jawaharlal nehru international Stadium here on Friday.
