IUML Kerala legislator Abdul Razack dead

KANNUR: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader and Manjeshwaram MLA PB Abdul Razak died at a private hospital in Kasaragod on Saturday morning. According to family sources, he was hospitalised three days back with respiratory ailment and fever, and the end came in the early hours of Saturday. He was 63.

Born on October 1955 to Beeran Moideen Haji and Beefathima at Chengala in Kasaragod, Abdul Razak had his schooling in his home district only. He established himself as a businessman. Later, he entered politics through Muslim Youth League and served here at different positions. He went on to become the IUML’s national executive member, and also he was the MLA of Manjeshwaram since 2011, when he defeated CPM leader CH Kunhambu by 5,828 votes.

In 2016, he dramatically defeated BJP leader K Surendran by a margin of just 89 votes. Following this, Surendran moved to the court, alleging that there is electoral fraud, and the case is still pending in the court.

Meanwhile, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed grief at the demise of Razak and in a condolence message he said Razak was keen about the development and social issues of Kasaragod.

Abdul Razak is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
