Kochi: An interventional valve therapy clinic that aims to treat patients with serious heart valve disease without a complicated open-heart surgery has been set up at Lisie hospital. This is the first such clinic in the state.
The prevalence of heart valve disease is increasing in Kerala. Unlike in the past, where only open-heart surgery was available to replace the valve for such patients, now non-open heart treatment is also available. The clinic is headed by cardiologist Dr Jo Joseph. The clinic’s website was inaugurated by Dr Haim Danenberg, a world’s prominent expert in such treatments. The clinic was inaugurated in a ceremony presided over by the hospital director, Fr Paul Karedan, and attended by interventional cardiologist and pioneer of primary angioplasty for myocardial infarction Dr Rony Mathew Kadavil and Dr Jose Chacko Periappuram, who performed the first heart transplant in Kerala.
