Indian Navy reviews its preparedness in ‘Sagar Kavach’

KOCHI: The Indian Navy conducted a two-day Coastal Security Exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ from April 24-26 off the coast of Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep and Minicoy (L&M) Islands.

The aim of the exercise was to enhance and assess the preparedness of all agencies towards dealing with an asymmetric threat emanating from the sea.

The exercise was conducted by the Headquarters Coast Guard District No 4 (Kerala) and the Headquarters Coast Guard District No 12 (L&M) conducted the exercise.

"The exercise Sagar Kavach is aimed at enhancing synergy between various stakeholders through sharing of information and resources of various agencies involved in the field of coastal security. The exercise helped in validating the standard operating procedures to strengthen the coastal security mechanism," said the defense spokesperson.

As many as four ships and three Fast Interceptor Craft (FICs) of Indian Navy and five ships of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) along with a

Dornier Aircraft

from both IN & ICG each were deployed off Kerala and L&M coast. Boats and personnel from Coastal Police, Marine Enforcement Wing(MEW), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Customs, Fisheries department and Port authorities also took part in the exercise.
