Idukki: Idukki DCC president C P Mathew has sparked a controversy after making remarks suggesting the use of women to file false complaints during political conflicts.
Speaking at Vazhathope during UDF candidate Roy K Paulose's constituency tour, Mathew allegedly claimed that women could be used against political opponents. He claimed that he had instructed a former Kanjikuzhi panchayat vice-president to tear her blouse if confronted, implying it could help initiate legal action against rivals. He also made references to using an adivasi woman in such situations, remarks that have drawn criticism.
Mathew further made allegations against local leaders, including a claim that former panchayat president Ancy Thomas assaulted a member and caused head injuries.
His remarks against CPM leader Lissy Jose have also triggered protests.
Critics have accused him of insulting women, encouraging the misuse of adivasi communities, inciting youth against political opponents, and promoting the destruction of rival party flex boards.
