THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/KOTTAYAM: The police team investigating the death of IB officer M Megha (24), who allegedly jumped in front of a train at Pettah, revealed on Saturday that she had called Sukanth Sukesh, a Malappuram native and fellow IB officer, just seconds before her death.
A loco pilot previously stated that Megha was seen walking along the tracks while talking on her phone before allegedly lying down across the rails as the train approached.
Call records indicate that the conversation lasted only eight seconds. "To understand what was communicated, we attempted to contact Sukesh on his mobile number, but it was switched off minutes after the incident, and he is now absconding," said a member of the probe team.
Efforts to reach him through his office revealed that Sukesh is on long leave. Questioning Sukesh is crucial, and we have intensified our search for him," the officer added.
Meanwhile, Megha's father, Madhusoodanan G, a retired principal of the Govt ITI in Kasaragod, has alleged that Sukesh used to financially exploit his daughter. Speaking to TOI, Madhusoodanan, a resident of Koodal near Kalanjoor in Pathanamthitta, stated that Megha's bank account statements provided proof of this exploitation.
"Over the past 10 months, approximately Rs 3.5 lakh was transferred to Sukesh's account," he said.
Madhusoodanan further revealed that Megha had only Rs 80 left in her account and often struggled to afford food. While she had told her friends that she sent her entire salary to her family, this was untrue. "There were times when her friends had to provide her with food because she was starving," he added.
Relatives said Megha and Sukesh had been in a relationship since their training period in Jabalpur.
Sukesh, who is posted at Kochi airport, had recently started ignoring Megha's demands for marriage. Megha, who was with the immigration wing of Thiruvananthapuram airportwas Madhusoodanan's only daughter.
Following her death, he had initially filed a complaint at the Pettah police station on Thursday, requesting an investigation into her call records. Now, with new evidence from her bank transactions, he has submitted a fresh complaint at the same station, where an unnatural death case has already been registered.
"What we seek is a thorough investigation based on the autopsy report, forensic examination of her phone, and her bank statements," Madhusoodanan stated. He added that he has been informed that the police will soon record his statement in light of these new findings.
