I-T notice to producer Antony Perumbavoor

Kochi: The Income Tax (I-T) department issued a notice seeking clarifications from producer Antony Perumbavoor in connection with earnings from a few movies he produced in the past. According to sources, the notice regarding the tax assessment was part of a routine procedure. Sources said the notice followed an enquiry by the agency into revenue generated by film production houses in 2022.In 2022, the IT department conducted inspections at the premises of production houses, including that of Antony, as part of tax assessment enquiries. The clarifications were sought after appraisal reports subsequent to these enquiries were filed.Sources stated these were routine proceedings and had no connection with the recent controversy over the Mohanlal-starrer ‘L2: Empuraan', jointly produced by Antony, which was released last week. Its makers re-edited the movie after release as it invited harsh criticism from right-wing groups.
