Higher edu minister reviews 4-year UG programme in state universities
Kochi: The four-year undergraduate programme marks a transitional phase in the academic scenario of the state, said higher education minister R Bindu on Monday.Bindu was addressing an evaluation meeting of the four-year UG programmes in state universities held at the Senate Hall of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat). "Concerns and confusion are natural at this phase, but we need to overcome the problems with proper planning to conduct the classes and examinations on time by following the academic calendar," she said.Vice-chancellors of Calicut University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit, Kannur University and Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University attended the meeting. Bindu congratulated Kannur University for initiating the UG programme without any hassles, and Thunchath and Sree Sankara universities for their keen efforts to implement the programme. Dr Rajan Varughese, member secretary, Kerala state higher education council, and M Junaid Bushiri, vice-chancellor, Cusat, also attended the meeting.Registrars, syndicate members, course coordinators and officials of various universities shared their insights and suggestions on the progress of the four-year degree programme, re-evaluated the activities so far, including curriculum framework and conduct of examinations. They presented reports on the status of the undergraduate programmes.Bindu announced a higher education conclave ‘Udyama', aimed at transforming the state into a higher education hub. As a precursor to the conclave scheduled on Dec 19 and 20 at Cochin University, ‘Udyama 1.0' will take place in Thiruvananthapuram from Dec 7 to 10. She launched ‘Udyama 1.0' website at a news conference at Ernakulam Press Club. The website will facilitate the collection of students' innovative ideas, registration of new technologies and products, and registration of rural technologies as part of ‘Udyama 1.0'.
