IDUKKI: Flood situation improved marginally in Kerala with water level in Idukki reservoir receding for the second straight day from 2,400.6ft on Saturday to 2,398.68ft on Sunday evening. However, heavy rain continued in the catchment areas of the reservoir on Sunday. Over the past 24 hours, Idukki recorded an average rainfall of 20.86mm.

All three shutters of Pothundy dam were opened on Sunday and the final warning to open the shutters of Chulliyar,

District collector D Balamurali said all three shutters of Pothundy reservoir were opened as a precautionary measure on Sunday as the water level rose to 107.71m. Shutters of Meenkara and Walayar dams will also be opened at any time.

Meanwhile, water level in

Mullaperiyar dam

rose to 135.2ft on Sunday morning.

Kerala State Electricity Board

officials said the shutters of Cheruthony dam will remain open for the time being.
