There is no ban on entry of media persons to the high court but difference of opinion exists over opening the media room that was closed in July, a counsel representing the high court submitted in the apex court.

Following this, the court postponed the hearing on the petition filed by

Kerala Union of Working Journalists

(KUWJ) to November 7.

Senior counsel Kapil Sibal, who is represen ting the union, submitted that the matter needed elaborate consideration of the court. The counsel representing the registrar of the high court said the high court administration was trying to resolve the issue and sought deferring the case for four weeks. However, the court granted time only until November 7. The petition, seeking reopening of the media room and safe and dignified access for media to courts, says no effective steps have been taken to resol ve the issue despite representations to the governor, chief minister,

Kerala chi

ef justice, advocate general and the re gistrar general of the high court.

Denying entry to the media to the high court for reporting purposes amounted to violation of constitutional provisions, it says.
