T'puram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan, on Thursday, criticized the Union govt's proposed amendment to the Constitution Bill. He said it reflected the Union govt's growing neo-fascist character. He accused central agencies of working under the influence of Sangh Parivar. Govindan also claimed that the Centre's attempt to disqualify the chief minister and ministers, who complete 30 consecutive days in jail for offences punishable by up to five years, was politically motivated.
MV Govindan also dismissed as preposterous the allegations made by Chennai-based Malayali businessman Mohammed Sharshad against him and his son Shyamjith. He said the CPM's Kerala unit had no involvement in the complaint filed by Sharshad against Rajesh Krishna, a London-based Malayali.
"Rajesh Krishna was scheduled to attend the party congress as the representative of the CPM in the UK. This matter falls directly under the party's central committee. It's for the central committee to act on it. So far, the central committee has not taken any action on the basis of this complaint," said Govindan.
He further claimed that the contents of Sharshad's letter were false. "Everything written in that letter is a lie," he said, adding that the party expected such controversies to be stirred up until the 2026 elections were over.
