FIR against director Chidambaram for sexually assaulting a woman

Kochi: Ernakulam south police on Sunday registered an FIR against director Chidambaram, based on a woman's complaint that he sexually assaulted her at a flat in Elamkulam.The complainant was reportedly associated with the film industry as well, sources said. The allegation was that the woman faced inappropriate behaviour from the director in 2022, leading to her modesty being outraged. Police received the woman's complaint a week ago, and the FIR was registered on Sunday. Police said the FIR was registered as per the complaint. Since the alleged offence occurred in 2022, relevant sections of IPC were invoked against him, an officer said, adding that the director's statement would be recorded. Further action, including arrest, would be initiated only after a preliminary investigation, a source said. Chidambaram is known for directing the super hit Malayalam film Manjummel Boys.
