Film exhibitors to go on strike

Kochi: A section of film exhibitors in the state are planning to shut down theatres on Wednesday and Thursday, in protest of the OTT streaming of the latest movie ‘2018-Every one is a hero’ directed by Jude Anthony Joseph.
FEUOK announced that the theatres would remain closed for two days as the filmmakers violated the agreement that the movies would be released on OTT only after 42 days of the release.
Earlier, the movies in Malayalam had been allowed to release on OTT platforms after 28 days of their theatre release. But, the films to be released after March 31, were allowed to stream on OTT platforms only after 42 days.
The OTT platform Sony Liv has already announced the OTT screening of the movie '2018' from June 7, 33 days after the movie’s theatre release.
Meanwhile, Liberty Basheer, who is heading the Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation, said that the federation would not participate in the strike. He said that though he disagrees with the early release of the movies on OTT platforms, the federation will not be part of the strike.
