Fefka demands release of full Hema Committee report

Kochi: Film Employees Federation of Kerala (Fefka) general secretary Unnikrishnan B has demanded govt to release the entire Hema Committee report.He told reporters on Saturday that Justice Hema should have acted promptly upon receiving the complaint instead of waiting for an extended period.Regarding the suspension of members facing sexual abuse allegations, Unnikrishnan clarified that the organization would act only when the court names the accused or the police make arrests. He said Fefka could not act solely based on a police FIR against an individual.Unnikrishnan said Fefka, Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), and the film producers' association had planned a joint media meet to respond to the Hema report.However, the plan was dropped due to opposition from a section of AMMA committee members, who have now adopted a ‘progressive stand', despite agreement of senior actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal.Addressing the criticism raised by director Ashique Abu against Fefka, Unnikrishnan refuted the allegation that the organization collected a 20% commission for dispute settlement. He said the federation collects only 10% of the settlement amount for its welfare fund — a standard practice among similar organizations nationwide. This contribution serves as a primary source of income for the unions and is collected after resolving disputes.
