Ernakulam rural police invoke Kaapa act against habitual offender
Kochi: Ernakulam rural police invoked Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention (Kaapa) Act against a habitual offender and moved him to prison for preventive detention.Binu, 39, from Vengoor was incarcerated in Viyyur Central Jail. The order was issued by district collector G Priyanka based on a report from rural district police chief. The action followed his involvement in a case registered by Kodanad police for breaking into an elderly woman's house in Mudakkuzha, on the night of Feb 2 and threatening to kill her. He threatened that he would blast a country-made cracker into her house and thrash her with an iron rod. Police said Binu was involved in numerous cases, including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, trespassing, intimidation and offences under Explosive Substances Act within the jurisdiction of Kodanad police station. The arrest was made by Kodanad police inspector A S Sarin. Assistant sub-inspector Aneesh Kuriakose, senior civil police officer Praveen and CPOs C K Sajeel and Sinoj Francis were part of the investigation team. In the rural district, nine habitual offenders have been detained under Kaapa Act and imprisoned so far this year.
