Ernakulam rural police investigate MDMA smuggling ring arrested in Angamaly

Kochi: Ernakulam Rural police launched a detailed investigation into the gang arrested with MDMA at Angamaly on Sunday night. Police said the accused were arrested while smuggling MDMA from Bengaluru.Three people were arrested with 20g of MDMA by the rural district anti-narcotics special action force (Dansaf) and Angamaly police. Swathi Krishna, 29, from Perumbavoor, Aishwaryan Dineshan, 28, from Karattupallikkara and Vishnu Chandran, 31, were the arrested persons.Krishna is already an accused in a previous MDMA smuggling case. The drugs were intended for sale among students and young people. The police are also investigating those who purchased drugs from them.Acting on a tip-off received by district police chief Vaibhav Saxena, the accused were taken into custody from Karayamparambu on the national highway. The drugs were hidden in a special compartment of their car. The police gave chase after the vehicle failed to stop when signalled. There was also an attempt to escape by abandoning the vehicle, police said.The investigation team included DSP TR Rajesh, Umesh Kumar, SIs K Pradeep Kumar, Ajith, Baijukuttan, senior CPOs MR Mithun, Ajitha Thilakan, Abi Surendran and the Dansaf Squad.
