Ernakulam records over 89% absentee voter turnout in home voting process
Kochi: Over 89% of absentee voters in Ernakulam exercised their franchise during the home voting process for the upcoming assembly election. The total absentee voters in Ernakulam are 18,541, comprising senior citizens above 85 years old and disabled people. Of them, 16,630 exercised their franchise during the home voting process that concluded on April 2.The highest number of absentee voters are in Piravom constituency with 2,183, followed by Muvattupuzha with 1,806 voters. The least number of absentee voters are in Tripunithura with 622 followed by Kochi with 783. An election official said while preparing the voters list, those willing to exercise absentee vote submit Form 6 to the booth level officials expressing willingness to cast vote through postal ballot. "More senior citizens and disabled people in Piravom constituency might have submitted application for postal ballot and that's why it has highest number of absentee ballots," he said.
