Elephant kills man in Ekm
Kochi: A 45-year-old daily wage worker was trampled to death by a wild elephant inside the forest at Urulanthanni in Kuttampuzha panchayat, around 23km away from Kothamangalam town, on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Kodiyattu Eldose.
The incident occurred on the Knachery road, which passes through the forest area. According to Kuttampuzha panchayat president, Kanthi Vellakayyan, the incident took place at 8pm. Eldose and his friend were walking along the road after getting down from the bus to their house. They had to walk for one and half km through the forest to reach their houses. The accident happened half a km away from Knachery forest station. Kanthi said that since it was dark, the duo could not see the elephant. While the friend managed to run away, Eldose's body was disfigured in the attack, she said.
Following the incident, locals reportedly protested, accusing the forest department of not installing solar fencing on both sides of the road inside the forest.
