'Discussed top CPM leader's entry to BJP with Nandakumar': BJP Kerala vice-president Sobha Surendran
KOCHI: BJP state vice-president and NDA's Alappuzha candidate Sobha Surendran on Tuesday said 'Dallal' T G Nandakumar had met her to discuss a top CPM leader's entry to BJP. "He demanded a huge amount as commission, but BJP never pays money for membership," she said.
Responding to Nandakumar's allegation that she swindled him of Rs 10 lakh, Sobha said she took the money as advance amount for selling her land in Thrissur.
Money given for land sale: SobhaBJP's state vice-president and NDA candidate from Alappuzha Sobha Surendran on Tuesday admitted that she received Rs 10 lakh in her account from 'broker' T G Nandakumar for a land deal. Nandakumar had said that Sobha received Rs 10 lakh from him, and produced a bank receipt to substantiate his claims.
Sobha said, Nandakumar transferred the money as advance amount for purchasing eight cents land in Thrissur. "He was present when another person came to buy the land. Nandakumar said if there's any immediate cash requirement, I can give Rs 10 lakh. I refused to take it and asked him to deposit the money and complete the registration. I had called him four times for registeration, but he hasn't come till now. I refuse to return the money but want him to take the land," she said at a press conference in Alappuzha.
"What is wrong in selling land? Is this the big announcement before the elections when he knows that Sobha Surendran will win in Alappuzha?" she asked.
Sobha said Nandakumar had first contacted her for helping a top CPM leader switch to BJP and split the communist party. She asked the media to verify if a room was registered in her name in Ramanilayam in Thrissur and who were the top CPM leaders, including minister K Radhakrishnan, who visited her.
"He contacted me as I was the party incharge for enrolling new members. When we discussed the CPM leader's membership in Delhi, Nandakumar demanded a huge amount as commission. But BJP never pays money to middlemen for increasing membership," she said. She asked Nandakumar to reveal the CPM leader's name.
The CPM leader wanted to be a governor or central minister, she alleged. "BJP will welcome any CPM leader other than Pinarayi Vijayan," she added. "Why is John Brittas calling for CMRL's owner through my relatives?" she said about other CPM leaders approaching her.
