Kochi: Director Ranjith was remanded to judicial custody on Sunday after Kochi city police completed interrogation and evidence collection in connection with the sexual assault complaint filed by a female actor. Earlier, court had granted his custody to police for three days till Monday; however, police decided to produce him back before the court as his custody was no longer required for the time being, sources said.
Police said that they decided to wrap up the custodial interrogation and evidence collection on Sunday considering his health issues. The director, according to police, had undergone multiple surgeries earlier.
On Sunday Ranjith was taken to Fort Kochi and to the caravan where the alleged assault occurred in Jan. The evidence collection was held at the caravan parked at the AR camp parking area in the city.
Ranjith's bail application will be considered by the court in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Kochi cyber police on Saturday arrested a YouTuber for allegedly revealing the identity of the complainant in the case. The accused Jinu Kunjumon, 39, a native of Kadakkal in Kollam, was later granted bail.
