The CPM Palakkad district committee and secretariat on Sunday decided to seek the removal of Dr P K Jameela, wife of minister A K Balan, from the candidates' list.

The party district leadership had suggested Jameela's name for Tarur after it was decided that Balan will not contest as per the two-term norm.
KOCHI: The CPM Palakkad district committee and secretariat on Sunday decided to seek the removal of Dr P K Jameela, wife of minister A K Balan, from the candidates' list.
Party workers and sympathizers had protested against her candidature when popular faces were being kept off the fray.
The party state secretariat, scheduled to meet on Monday, is expected to approve the district leadership's demand.

The party district leadership had suggested Jameela's name for Tarur after it was decided that Balan will not contest as per the two-term norm.
At the district committee meeting, members pointed out that Jameela's candidature could harm the prospects of LDF candidates across the state. The committee has also reportedly suggested the name of P P Sumod for the constituency.
