Cop misuses senior’s email, shunted out of ASP office
Kochi: A senior civil police officer (CPO) attached to Perumbavoor ASP office was transferred pending an enquiry for suspected unauthorised use of the senior officer's email account. According to police sources, SCPO Sharnas was transferred from the ASP office to Njarackal police station. Sharnas's brother's bank account was reportedly frozen, sources said. He allegedly sent an email from the Perumbavoor ASP's email ID to the bank requesting that the account be normalised.However, the ASP was unaware of this and came to know about the email when the bank tried to verify it with the district police chief's office. Subsequently, an inquiry was held, and Sharnas was transferred as a preliminary action, sources said. Further departmental action will be initiated if the inquiry confirms that the officer committed the offence, said sources.Man held for cheating: A 50-year-old man was arrested by Kochi city police for allegedly cheating multiple people by offering to sell them 10 sovereigns of gold for a payment of Rs 50,000. The accused told the victims that they only needed to pay the remaining amount in instalments of Rs 10,000. Thoppumpady police arrested Varghese (50), son of Simon of Palluruthy, for deceiving several people into giving him a total of Rs 3 lakh and then absconding. He had been hiding at several places like Pollachi in Tamil Nadu, among others. He was eventually caught working at a tea shop in Kalamassery area of Ernakulam.Varghese was presented in court and remanded in judicial custody.Body found: A partially decomposed body of a man was found in the kitchen area adjacent to a church in Perumbavoor around 10.30 am on Monday. The deceased is suspected to be a migrant labourer about 30 to 40 years old. The body was found by parishioners after noticing foul smell. Police held inquest proceedings and registered a case.Teen killed in accident: Anujith (19), son of Sivan from Enanelloor, died after a motorcycle rammed into a street lamp post at Muvattupuzha around 10pm on Sunday. Anujith suffered a severe head injury. He was riding pillion when the rider lost control and rammed the post.
