Students from the School of Drama, Thrissur, used their art to communicate their views on the current, socio-political situation in the country at the ongoing G Sankara Pilla Natakothsavam drama festival at Bharath Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. The team presented an improvised version of

G Shankara Pillai

’s

Ilapozhiyum Kalathoru Pularkalavela

.

The post-modern play was conceived and directed by Shibu S Kottaram, featuring

Shyam Reji

, Maniprasad, Biresh Krishnan, Varsha Valsan and Rahul Sreenivasan. The hour-long play, which did not have any dialogues, was supplemented by light and music to convey the story.

Speaking about the play, Shyam Reji says, “It conveyed the intolerance and the fascism in our country in the political, social and cultural scenarios. It takes the audience through India’s historical changes after independence. Being a post-modern play, the audience can arrive at their own conclusions. We felt happy as many in the audience congratulated us for the courage in portraying such a sensitive issue through our play.”

We spotted veteran director Shyamaprasad, Kollam Thulasi, Joby and many more in the audience.
