KOCHI: The Kerala high court on Monday directed that candidates who are using the symbol ‘Chenda’ should be considered as affiliated to PJ Joseph faction of Kerala Congress (M) on the basis of letter issued by authorized representative of the party.
Justice A Muhamed Mustaque issued the directive after considering a petition filed by PJ Joseph questioning state election commission’s recording of candidates contesting under ‘Chenda’ symbol as independent candidates.
The court has directed that state election commission and presiding officers should take action as per the court’s directive.
Stating that an appeal against the election commission’s decision allotting ‘Two Leaves’ symbol to Jose K Mani group is pending before the high court, the petitioner had contended that candidates of his party have been included in the list of independent candidates even though they are facing the election under the party symbol on the basis of letter issued by him or an authorized representative of the party.
