KOCHI: Cochin International Airport Limited (Cial) has marked a substantial increase in volume of passengers. The last fiscal figure in airport traffic reveals that Cial has crossed the 5 million passenger mark annually.
The first airport with public participation has shown consistent growth in both passenger traffic and aircraft movement. The airport handled 5.39 million passengers in 2013-14 fiscal, which is 10.01% more than that of the 2012-13 fiscal.

Also, the number of international passengers has exceeded the domestic ones. While 3.271 million international passengers used the airport in 2013-14, just 2.119 million domestic passengers arrived at the airport.
“Cial has recorded 11.49% growth in international passengers and 7.8% in domestic passengers. In 2013-14, the airport recorded 47,072 aircraft movement which is 13.32% more than the previous year,” said V J Kurian, the founder managing director of Cial.
A C K Nair, airport director, said Cial is building an international terminal at a cost of Rs 850 crore to address the challenges in future.
