Kottayam: UDF candidate in Puthuppally, Chandy Oommen arrived at the polling booth wearing black clothes as an expression of dissent against the ruling front. He told the media that his father
Oommen Chandy was persecuted by the LDF govt and those were painful days. He was speaking after voting at booth No. 140 at Puthuppally Georgian Public School. He was accompanied by his mother Mariamma Oommen and sister Maria.
The protest is symbolised by black. Seeing black is a problem for many today, he pointed out.
"When this LDF govt was in opposition as well as when they were in power, they carried out a witch hunt against my father that was unparalleled in the history of Kerala. They are protecting the people who carried out the witch hunt. Even CBI has concluded that my father was not guilty. Still no action was taken against the conspirators. The entire Kerala is voting against this govt in protest," he said.
"Today is the day when my father will get justice. Justice is going to be given by the people of Kerala. We cannot forget what was done to him. We have no enmity, no anger, but there is need for justice, and I believe the people of Kerala will do justice to my father by giving the state a Congress chief minister," he said.
He added that the same persecution was carried out against Puthuppally constituency. They were persecuted by not providing funds for development activities, which were hindered. Bridges, super-speciality hospitals and similar projects remain stagnant. They are still at the point where the Oommen Chandy govt left off. This is also a protest against issues that affected the entire state, like Sabarimala gold theft.
