Kottayam: The practice of chancellors interfering in day-to-day functioning of universities began in Kerala during previous LDF govt’s time, said higher education minister Roji M John in Kottayam on Tuesday.“Everyone knows that during previous govt’s time, those with RSS connections were appointed to the senates and syndicates. Where were those who are now protesting at that time?” he asked.“At one point, a governor-govt ‘mock fight’ took place. A meeting took place between the then chief minister and governor. After that, the protest stopped all of a sudden. Everyone knows the interests of those who are protesting,” he said.“Govt will never collude with saffronising higher education sector and will be at the forefront to resist it. It is govt’s policy decision as to which positions IAS and IPS officers should be appointed to. B Ashok is an officer who was suspended for criticising the previous govt,” said John. The minister asked, in connection with Ashok’s appointment, whether it could be said present govt shouldn't appoint an officer whom LDF govt didn't like.
