Kozhikode: "Though as many as 159 movies were made before it, Murapennu changed the course of Malayalam cinema. It is a textbook for anyone who want to learn the art and craft of filmmaking," said writer C Radhakrishnan. Speaking at a function organized by Jaycey Foundation to commemorate fifty years of the movie here on Saturday, he said Murapennu was firmly grounded in Kerala culture.
For M T Vasudevan Nair, who scripted the movie, it opened the doors to the magical world of cinema. "Cinema was never there in my wildest dreams. In my childhood days, I didn't get any chance to watch movies. I saw a film for the first time while studying in college," he said. The writer recollected that he was compelled by Shobana Parameshwaran Nair, one of his friends from the industry, to write the script for the movie. Murapennu was based on a short story by MT.
