Cameras to be set up in Kalamassery
Kochi: Kalamassery municipality is joining hands with city police to prevent dumping of waste at public places by installing cameras.Police will soon prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to identify the locations where the cameras have to be installed. The DPR will be presented at the council for ratification before presenting before the district planning committee for final approval.“City police had approached us with the proposal to install cameras; and they will prepare the DPR and submit it to us. Currently, the local body already has 12 cameras, including two moving ones, for capturing those dumping waste at public places,” said a municipality official. In the meantime, city police officials said that there are plans to install cameras across the city to prevent the illegal dumping of waste.Meanwhile, Kalamassery local body is trying hard to speed up distribution of bio bins to households as the Kochi corporation decided not to allow other local bodies to dump waste at Brahmapuram after April 30.“Earlier there demand for bio bins from households was meagre. With the latest decision not to collect bio waste from households, we are flooded with requests. Currently, Rs 1.8 crore has been approved for buying bio bins. The local body will meet the 90% of the amount of the bin and the resident needs to meet the rest 10%. But the amount allotted is not enough to meet the demand,” a municipality official said.
