Boy's death case: CWC seeks action against mother

ALAPPUZHA: The

district child welfare committee

(

CWC

) here on Friday directed Kareelakulangara police to take legal action against the mother of a ten-year-old boy, who was found hanged to death in their rented house at Pathiyoor on Friday.

The district CWC chairperson

Jalaja Chandran

said that she has asked Kareelakulangara police to take legal action against the mother as she understood that the mother, who was staying away from her husband, kept the children in the house in an irresponsible way.

The child was found dead in their rented house on Thursday evening and the body was found with a towel wrapped around his neck.

The police said that the incident happened when the mother went to

Thrissur

on Thursday. At that time, the victim and his younger brother were alone at the house. The local people reached the house on Thursday evening after hearing the crying of the younger child. Though they have taken the victim to the hospital, his life could not be saved.

"The victim’s father also lodged a complaint with us through whats App against the mother and he also requested us to allow him to conduct the last rites of the child. We have allowed it and also permitted him to take care of the younger child temporarily," she said.

Kareelakulangara police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC (unnatural death) in connection with the death of the child.

The police said that the post mortem of the child will be conducted in

Alappuzha Medical College Hospital

after receiving his Covid-19 test result.
