Boy suffers burn injuries, mother arrested

Idukki: Shantanpara police on Friday arrested a mother after her five-year-old boy suffered burn injuries. According to police, the incident occurred four days ago. The mother, a resident of Pethotty near Shantanpara in Idukki, heated a steel spoon in the stove and burned the child’s soles and hips.
After the incident, the family left for Tamil Nadu and returned on Thursday evening.The neighbours noticed that the child was having difficulty in walking and alerted the Child Line. The Child Line officials and police immediately reached the spot and shifted the boy to Shantanpara primary health centre.
“We registered a case against the mother under Juvenile Justice Act. The child was provided initial treatment and was later shifted to Adimali taluk hospital,” said Shantanpara SHO Anil George.
In her statement, the mother, a plantation worker, told police that the boy was hyperactive and did not obey her directions and it resulted in the punishment.
