Kochi: Mortal remains of at least 20 persons, who died under different circumstances in Kuwait over the past few days, reached Kochi on a special flight on Tuesday.
The Kuwait Airways flight carrying the bodies landed at Cial around 10.40 pm. Airport authorities said that these bodies could not be brought back home earlier due to disruptions in flight services as a fallout of the Middle East conflict.
"The bodies of those who died in Kuwait in the past few days and hailing from various parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu were brought to Kochi in a single flight on Tuesday nights. We are unaware of the reasons of death in each case. We will be handing over the mortal remains to the relatives after completing the procedures," officials said.
The bodies were transported by a special flight from Kuwait via Colombo to Kochi, Cial officials said. Officials with the health wing of Cial completed the procedures prior to the handing over of the bodies.
According to Cial officials, the deceased hail from places such as Alappuzha and Kottayam, along with places in Tamil Nadu.
