Police say they hatched the conspiracy on the understanding that no one would come to claim the money if Pappachan died. The others held include accounts executive Anoop (37), employees Maheen (47), Hashif Ali (27) and Animon (44), an alleged contract killer. They have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after being booked under Section 103 (murder) and Section 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Pappachan was hit by a car while cycling near Kollam’s Asramam Ground. The car sped off and passers-by took him to hospital, where he was declared dead. Police suspected murder after scanning the crash footage.
