Auto drivers fined for faulty meters

Kochi: The motor vehicles department (MVD) has imposed fine on around 20 auto drivers in the city on charges of misbehaviour and usage of faulty fare meters.
Also, licenses of four drivers were suspended for not possessing valid service permit and other important documents.
"Majority of the autorickshaws plying in the city do not have properly functioning fare meter.Those who take such autos end up in disputes with the drivers," said Suresh M, an official with the vehicles department, Ernakulam.
He added that the number of complaints of misbehaviour by drivers is on the rise.
