THRISSUR: The Thrissur Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, on Thursday, issued a fresh arrest warrant against Dr
Subramanian Swamy, president of Janata Party, for failing to repay the fixed amount deposited by a person in his company, Express Malayalam Private Limited.
Subramanian Swamy was the chairman of the company based in Thrissur. The forum directed that Swamy should be produced before court on or before April 4, 2012.
The case before the forum dates back to 1994, when V Vasudevan of Thrissur filed a complaint saying that Subramanian Swamy had failed to return the amount deposited in the company. He deposited Rs 5,000 as fixed amount in 1986 with the company, which offered nine per cent interest. In 1994, Vasudevan tried to withdraw the money, in vain.
In 1996, the consumer forum issued an order to repay the amount with interest rate and Rs 200 for expenditure. Although the forum issued an arrest warrant against Subramanian Swamy in this regard in 2008, the warrant did not reach him as the address was not correct. The company was closed down, several years ago.
Thrissur consumer disputes redressal forum president Padmini Sudish, members P S Rajani and M S Sasidharan presided over the procedure.
