Police stated that the student recently filed a complaint alleging Ashrafi, who is originally from Tanur in the Malappuram district, harmed him for alleged disobedience.

Following the complaint, Ashrafi reportedly fled Kerala and sought refuge in various locations within Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Acting on information received, police apprehended Ashrafi upon his return to his home district from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday. While he initially attempted to flee, authorities successfully detained him.

"Kannavam police arrested him and booked him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)," confirmed police.

Following his arrest, Ashrafi was presented before a local court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody.
