KOCHI: The investigation team probing the
alleged rape of an actor in Kochi
on Saturday approached the judicial first class magistrate court seeking to
conduct narco-analysis test
on the on the main accused
Sunil Kumar aka
Pulsar Suni
.
However, the counsel for the accused expressed the unwillingness of his client to undergo the test following which the plea was dismissed. The move by the investigating officials followed the inability to find the phone used to record the visuals of the crime.
The court favourably considered an application by the police to extend the custody period of Pulsar Suni and Vijesh. The police custody has now been extended till March 10 after the court heeded to their plea that the cops are yet to complete interrogating them. The police custody period was set to expire on March 5.
Martin Antony, one of the accused in the case and the driver of the actor was remanded in judicial custody after his police custody period ended on Saturday. Another co-accused in the case, Charlie, who had assisted Suni and Vigeesh in Coimbatore has also been ramanded in judicial custody.
According to sources close to the investigation team, Suni has once again changed his statement. The accused now says that the visuals were transferred to a memory card in the phone later handed over to his lawyer. Cops are now awaiting completion of forensic examination of the phone presented in court by the lawyer.
Police are trying to verify whether Pulsar Suni was actually trying to mislead the survivor and the investigators. Suni had told her about recording the visuals as part of a ‘quotation’ given by a woman.
The police maintained that they are verifying messages that Suni received in his phones over the past several months. “We have evidence only against the people who have been arrested. The police custody for the two main accused were sought to verify whether more persons are involved in the crime,” said a police officer.
