: The district on Saturday reported 696 Covid-19
positive cases
, of which 683 contracted the disease through
local infection
. At the same time, the source of
infection
of two persons remains undetectable. Apart from that, six people landed from abroad, three arrived from other states and two health staff have also tested positive for the disease.
The
health officials
said that the district also confirmed four Covid-19-related deaths on Saturday, taking the total toll in the district so far to 113. Meanwhile, 549 people undergoing treatment for the disease have tested negative. At present, 9,048 people are undergoing treatment in the district. Alappuzha district collector A Alexander has declared ward 8 in Pandanad, parts of ward 11 in Thakazhi, ward 14 in Mararikulam South, ward 6, 7 and 10 in Thanneermukkom grama panchayats as containment zones.
Alappuzha police
on Saturday registered 44 cases and arrested 15 people for acting against the directives of the government for preventing the spread of Covid-19. Action was taken against 295 people for not wearing masks and 1,012 people for not maintaining social distancing. Police said that they have registered five cases and took action against 76 people for violating prohibitory orders imposed in the district under Section 144 of the CrPC.
