13-year-old boy drowns in lake

Kochi: A 13-year-old boy drowned in a lake in South Paravur on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Abhinand Suresh, 13, of Pallikadavu, South Paravur. The boy left his house to go to his friend's house around 11.30am. When he didn't return by afternoon, the family went looking for him. He had reportedly returned home after finding his friends' home empty. Boat workers who went past the area found him dead in the lake near South Paravur-Perumbalom boat jetty. It is suspected that he may have accidentally fallen into the lake while sitting at the boat jetty. The body was taken out of the water, and inquest proceedings were conducted. The body was handed over to the kin after an autopsy. South Paravur police registered a case of unnatural death. Police said prima facie there was no foul play involved, as drowning was the cause of death. A detailed investigation is on to find how he fell into the water, police said.
