12-year-old girl killed in lightning strike at Uravappara

Thodupuzha: A 12-year-old girl was killed after being struck by lightning while visiting the hilltop tourist destination Uravappara near Thodupuzha on Friday evening. The deceased was Nafeesathul Misriya of Perumbavoor.Her father and a local resident from Thodupuzha, who attempted to rescue them, were injured in the incident. According to reports one of them is in a serious condition. The incident occurred around 6pm. The father and daughter were part of a group from Perumbavoor visiting the tourist destination. Misriya' father, V M Afsal (39), and Gokul S Raj (26) of Mangattukavala, Thodupuzha, sustained injuries. All of them were immediately shifted to a private hospital in Thodupuzha, but Misriya's life could not be saved. Afsal, who suffered serious injuries, is currently admitted in ICU. Thodupuzha region had been experiencing heavy rain, strong winds and intense lightning since Friday evening. The group was on top of Uravappara hill and was attempting to descend when they were struck by lightning.
